We've touched on some of compact fluorescent light bulb's risks to ourselves as related to UV radiation. What about our belongings? UV radiation is known to affect sensitive paintings, water colors and textiles. The solution? Protect your art work from UV light, including CFL's. Consider using museum glass or conservation glass, which are known to have UV blocking properties. It is not recommended to use CFL's to light your artwork. Although not the perfect solution, less of the light produced by incandescent light bulbs is in the damaging spectrum. Conservation the goal? Perhaps try viewing in the dark.
