Q's Daily DIY Green Tips: Refrigerator Incentives

Both the Department of Energy and the Enviromental Protection Agency have recognized that residential energy consuption is on the rise and the need for energy consumption reduction at the household level.  As per the ENERGY STAR website, ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators are required to use 20% less energy than models not labeled with the ENERGY STAR logo. Choosing a new qualified model rather than a non-qualified model can cut your energy bills by $165 over the lifetime of your fridge.  This does not account for the actual savings resulting from switching from old to new.  When choosing a new refrigerator, be sure to consider purchasing and ENERGY STAR rated unit.
