Q's Daily DIY Green Tips: De-Ice and Save Energy

Many ways to save energy with your refrigerator circle back to finding ways to give the compressor a break.  One other such way is to defrost your freezer whenever ice or frost begins to build up.  Ice build up on the coils means that the refrigerator compressor needs to run longer to maintain cool temperatures, thus using more energy.  When defrosting, make sure water is mopped up with a rag and kept off your floors and away from electric devices for safety reasons and to prevent damage to your property.
